Hi there, I'm Kevin Fedewa and I'm...
(1) in the beginning of my PhD in Second Language Studies at MSU,
(2) directing the English as a Second Language Program at Kettering University, and
(3) teaching first and second semester Mandarin Chinese there too.

I’ve been very fortunate to have had a variety of experiences teaching in and coordinating language programs both here in the US and abroad in China and Korea. Currently, my work mainly involves building programs from the ground up. And, thankfully, that is where my interest lies too.

When it comes to creating programs, I agree with Kumaravadivelu that in order for any language program to be relevant (or worthwhile), the program must be continually sensitive to, responsive to, and reflect the particulars of the learners, the teachers, their goals, and the local context (2001, p.538). In other words, I believe that every language program is a Language for Specific Purposes program. So, currently I am interested in Needs Analyses for the programs that I'm building so that I can identify these particulars from all stakeholders, and then set goals and the assessments of them, and evaluate the programs (so that the programs are flexible and continually reflect changes in these particulars.)

If you’d like to see more about what I do and have done (or have suggestions for how I could do things better), feel free to browse my simple website here or contact me!
